The original fireplace was constructed of classic red brick, featuring a rectangular opening and traditional masonry workmanship. The brick surround had a solid, honest character, with a timeworn patina inside the firebox that reflected years of use. Simple and understated in design, the fireplace served as a dependable and familiar element of the home, providing warmth and function while offering a quiet foundation for its later transformation with a custom cast stone fireplace.

At this stage of the project, the interior of the firebox was painted black to create a clean, refined backdrop in preparation for the new surround. This step was an intentional transition—subtly modernizing the fireplace interior while setting the foundation for the cast stone surround to be installed. At the same time, the original hearth was carefully removed and the floor area was leveled and finished to receive the new hearth.

At this point in the process, new gas fire logs were installed within the firebox.  The updated gas logs introduce a refined, efficient heat source—bringing the fireplace back to life as it awaited the installation of the new cast stone surround.

The new cast stone surround and hearth have been installed, transforming the fireplace into a refined architectural focal point.
